Weekdays vs. weekends: Weekdays, especially Tuesday to Thursday mornings (8am to 10am), are the least crowded. 

Avoid Fridays and weekends when local visitors increase crowd levels.

Peak season: October to April offers cooler temperatures (15-25°C), ideal for walking and photography.

Low season (May to September): Very hot (up to 40°C), with fewer tourists but challenging conditions for outdoor exploration.

Best time of day: Early morning visits provide softer light for photos and cooler weather. 

Late afternoon (3pm to 5pm) is also pleasant, but expect more visitors.

Special events: Avoid Egyptian national holidays and religious festivals when the site can be busier.

How to get there

By public transport: Take Cairo Metro Line 2 to Giza Station. From there, it’s approximately 4 km (about 10-15 minutes by taxi or local microbus) to the Pyramids entrance. Several bus lines (Bus 355) run from central Cairo to the Giza Plateau area; check local schedules.

By taxi or ride-hailing: Uber and Careem are reliable and affordable options from anywhere in Cairo. The drive from downtown Cairo takes about 30-40 minutes, depending on traffic.

Main Entrance (South Entrance): Located on the southern side of the Giza Plateau, near the ticket office and visitor center. 

This is the primary access point for most visitors and offers the best facilities.

North Entrance: Less commonly used, closer to the Solar Boat Museum and the Great Pyramid’s eastern side. Accessible via a short walk from the main road, but with limited facilities.

Accessibility at entrances: The main entrance is wheelchair accessible with ramps and paved paths; the north entrance is less accessible.

Cloakrooms & lockers: Available at the visitor center for storing bags and personal items.

Wheelchair access: The Main entrance and visitor center are accessible; the terrain near the pyramids may be uneven. Wheelchairs are available on request.

Restrooms: Located near the main entrance and the Solar Boat Museum.

Prayer rooms: Found near the visitor center for Muslim visitors.

Souvenir shops: Local crafts and gifts are sold near the entrance and main paths.

ATMs: A few are near the entrance, but carrying cash is recommended.

First-aid: Assistance is available at the visitor center with trained staff.

Photography is allowed throughout the site; however, flash photography and tripods are prohibited inside the pyramids. Commercial photography requires special permits.

Children under 6 are not allowed inside the pyramids for safety reasons.

Large backpacks, food, and drinks are not allowed inside the pyramids. Small bags are permitted but may be subject to security checks. Large bags can be kept in the lockers available at the entrance. 

Modest clothing is recommended out of respect for local culture; shoulders and knees should be covered. Comfortable walking shoes are essential.

Maintain respectful silence inside the pyramids and near religious or sacred areas. No smoking or littering on the site.

Consider a guided tour: Guides can offer historical context and help you navigate the large site more easily.

Respect the Site: Avoid climbing on structures and follow posted guidelines.

Wear comfortable shoes: Expect lots of walking on sand and uneven surfaces.

Stay hydrated: Bring water, especially in warmer months—shade is limited.

Dress modestly: Light, breathable clothing that covers shoulders and knees is ideal.
